Reef developer resources

This is the developer index for Reef (product) at goreef.ai. Reef is a native macOS app. It is not a public SaaS HTTP API.

There is no public OpenAPI spec, no public webhook receiver, and no cloud REST API that a third-party server can call with an API key. If an agent searched for “Reef API docs” or “Reef webhooks” and found this page, that is the answer: use MCP on the user’s Mac and the agent files on this domain.

1. Reef MCP server (primary integration)

Reef can act as an MCP server for the user’s own Claude Code (or any MCP client on the same Mac). Direction: user’s agent → Reef, not Reef spawning an agent.

• Binary: ~/.reef/bin/reef-mcp (installed by Reef.app)
• Socket: ~/.reef/run/reef-mcp.sock (same OS uid only; no extra token)
• Gate: Settings → Integrations → Reef MCP Connector (exposeReefOverMCP, default off)
• Register: claude mcp add reef --scope user -- ~/.reef/bin/reef-mcp
• Tools: 21 reads + one gated write (lagoon_propose_edit, default off). Kanban (boards, tasks, plans, git links), Sonar (meetings, transcripts, audio paths, highlights), Coral (ideas, runs, timeline), Flow (list_pipelines), cloud sessions, Lagoon (list/get/search). Scope = whatever the signed-in user already sees. If Reef.app is not running, tools return REEF NOT REACHABLE.

2. Agent files on goreef.ai

• /llms.txt — map + when to use
• /agent-instructions.md — jobs and call pattern
• Markdown on every canonical page: send Accept: text/markdown or fetch the .md sibling
• /sitemap.xml

Content-Type for negotiated markdown is text/markdown; charset=utf-8. Responses that negotiate set Vary: Accept, Accept-Encoding.

3. Hub packages

Reef Hub is an in-app catalog of versioned packages (Claude plugins, skills, agents, MCP servers, flows, templates). Publishing and install happen inside Reef, not through a public REST docs site. There is no anonymous Hub HTTP API for agents on the open web.

4. Auth

People sign in to Reef with Google or GitHub OAuth inside the Mac app. That session is for the app and its cloud workspace. It is not an OAuth API you can implement against from a third-party website. There are no developer API keys issued at goreef.ai.

5. Webhooks

Reef does not currently publish a public outbound webhook catalog or inbound webhook URL for third parties.

6. Status line and hooks (on-device)

Reef installs a local hook binary (reef-hook) and talks to Claude Code (and other CLIs) over a Unix socket on the Mac. That path is for the running app, not for remote servers.
